Talking to children about disability while building and maintaining good self esteem.

Parenting a child with a disability has unique challenges and there can be a lot to think about. This lecture will talk about some of the issues that can arise when talking to your child about their disability. Siblings of a child with a disability can also face additional challenges, which parents have to navigate their way through. We will also discuss some strategies for managing family relationships when one child requires a different parenting approach to accommodate their disability. Finally, many parents want to know how to encourage healthy self esteem in their children, the lecture will cover some practical tips for encouraging self esteem in all children including those with disabilities.

Presenter: Rebecca Slykerman is a Neuropsychologist for children.

Come along at 7pm for supper. The lecture will begin at 7:30pm and run for approximately one hour. Please phone Sally 488 4688 ext 5828 or email: sally@wilsonhometrust.org.nz.
